What is doing business with a Scientology affiliated company really like?

I can't find any straight answers on this. Looks like there are people online with a serious axe to grind. Do they treat people any different than a non scientology affiliated business? Do they subscribe to some management model peculiar to themselves? Are promotions blocked or difficult for non-scientologist people? I have a dear friend who is considering employment with a company commonly known to be COS affiliated and is a little hesitant. She fears that if it turns out to be cult like and quits, "they" will try to sue her or use something heavy handed. I think that it's okay and most people think it's some freaky cult like experience. What do those of you with personal experiences know?

What is doing business with a Scientology affiliated company really like?
Horrific. Scientology is a cult that uses high paid lawyers to get what they want %26amp; counteract any bad publicity. That's why it's illegal in some countries.

Starting a business?

what do you need to start a small business at home. Do I have to get my name copyrighted stuff like that i want to sell some of my cakes online but don't know how to go about doing it the legal way. any website or advice would be great thanks.

Starting a business?
When I started my first business I talked to an accountant and she helped me threw the process. She told me everything I needed to do and well to tell you the truth I just paid her to do it. Talking to accountants are free get as much information out of them as possible. Really all you need is a business ID number and A tax ID number, depending on what state you live in.

Reply:I have a copyrighted product. Copyrights are given to intellectual property, like books, music, not cakes. You'd have to submit a sample of your product, and I don't think a cake would handle well in a file. The copyright was easily done by registering it with the Library of Congress. However, you must be precise in what you are submitting. I consulted a patent layer who was gracious enough to tell me I did everything correctly on my own. It isn't that hard.

If your goal is to bake cakes to sell over the internet, you might have to check out laws with your public health dept. You would probably need to do your baking in a certified kitchen. If you can't have your kitchen certified, you could rent time in a senior center, church, or restaurant that has a certified kitchen. If we could bake cookies from our houses and sell directly to the public, there would probably be a lot of homemakers doing it. It can get kind of tricky when you sell your baked goods commercially to the public.

There are liability issues that might come up; an LLC might be an entity you might want to consider instead of just going at this as a sole proprietor. To become an LLC is also possible for you to handle, contact your state government. It involves filling out the proper documents.

The Small Business Administration in your area is invaluable. They can answer many of the questions your are posing, and possibly help you with your entity paper. Make an appointment, its a good starting point.

Taking an Accounting class Online?

Is it a good idea? Will i learn? Tests are held in campus. Everything else is online.

P.S. Im a freshman and the class is only an "Introduction to Accounting" ...Business Degree Major in Economics

Taking an Accounting class Online?
It depends how well the online course is structured, the instructor, and your talents and abilities. Online courses in general require you to keep up as in a regular campus course. Slack away and you're guaranteed to do poorly so don't fall into that trap. Accounting specifically requires some hand-holding in the practical concepts since you really need to nail down how to do the problemsets quickly and correctly, as during examinations you will be pressed for time to finish everything. You need to do all the homework and understand it very well, even if the homework isn't collected. If you don't understand something, you must find the answer. So instructor contact is very important for the course. In an online course, as you do not see the instructor typically, you need to make sure they are receptive to inquiries by email, phone, and in person if you live near the campus.

Online MBA - Does anyone have any real world experience with how these degrees are viewed by employers?

I mean someone who has obtained a better job by virtue of attaining a degree of this type, or someone who has had a bad experience in a job search because of obtaining this type of degree.

I don't need to hear that going to a top 15 business school is the way to go. I know that. If I could go to Harvard then I would, but I can't. Just looking to enhance my skills some and put myself into a better position for some upper level jobs at my current employer as well as other employers. For that reason I'm wondering if going for an online MBA is worth my time, or would the amount of job experience I gained at the same time be just as valuable, if not more so, along with just obtaining some professional designations/certificates?

Online MBA - Does anyone have any real world experience with how these degrees are viewed by employers?
We're one of the largest employers in the state and we accept regionally accredited degrees, regardless of delivery format.

If you want an online MBA with more name recognition, look at Penn States or U Illinois just announced they were kicking off their online program.
Reply:Real work experience and finding a "ladder" or a boss who really likes you is much more valuable than getting an online MBA. Networking and knowing the right people are more valuable than any degree or certification.

Pet grooming courses online?

I found this question, which sort of helped, but wanted a bit more reassurance...

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

I want to take online dog grooming courses, most likely through Nash Academy (possibly through Penn Foster, not sure yet) and was wondering what else I need to do to be more "appealing" in the business. Obviously I need hands on training, so would PetCo, PetSmart, or a local vet's office or animal shelter be willing to give me training? I live in Iowa, so the only way for me to get the schooling (without traveling 2 1/2 hours) is to take online courses...

Pet grooming courses online?
I know PetSmart does send their bathers through groomer training, but you also obligate yourself for a certain amount of time to work for them or pay X amount of money to them, I'm sure PetCo has something similar to prevent people from hiring on long enough to become a groomer then go open up their own salon. You could try a vet's office the one I go to has sent people to grooming school before, but didn't do on the job training, which is what you sound like your looking for. Otherwise your only option would be to get the online classes and go from there but that would also be slow going.

Online jobs for secondary income?

i am looking for a secondary job online just to make extra money, is there any legit companies that someone can recommend, or possibly a home based business?

Online jobs for secondary income?
Not sure what would be right for you but my main advice would be to definitely stay away from any business that wants you to pay money to "work" for them from home. That generally spells scam.

Additionally, if you have a talent in some area (you play guitar or another instrument or are knowledgeable in computers) maybe you could teach or tutor people from your home. If you are a pack rat, you could join eBay and start selling your stuff to make a few extra bucks. Lastly, if you're a handy person, you could run small ads in the local paper to do odd jobs such as mowing, plowing/shoveling, minor household repairs, and anything that you think that you're qualified to do. There are a lot of elderly people that can't afford to hire professionals for small jobs and when they find a reasonably priced person that returns their calls and can assist them, they generally become repeat customers.

Good luck to you.

Guru.com -- it's just one business that freelances jobs to people with the right requirements. It's all computer work (data input, website fix up's, etc.), so if that's not close to your field of expertise, that probably wouldn't be helpful to you.

Craigslist.com would also have a lot of options.

Being a business development consultant, I am having great difficulty dealing with companies staff members.?

In my field, Computer Aided Engineering, virtually all

distributors are unwilling to cooperate.

They always say " We have no brochures, no demos, no info whatsover " "You are not allowed to read about our

products". "Don't contact customers". By the way, 80 % of info is available online. On the other hand, they do their best to rob ideas, even whole mind. For example : "Who are our competitors"

"What is your business plan", "How can we improve our marketing". The moment you give them the info, your are kicked out. I have also noticed that companies are always afraid that someone could take distributorship from them. On the other hand , I achieved great success with foreign companies including reputable international universities. I will never give up but I am really feeling so upset. I am fighting hard for 15 months so far.

Today I recieved terrible call from a distributor and at the end they said "Stay at home for further instructions."

I hanged up and won't comply of course.

A Company that I do business with used my credit card for leisure!?

A company that I make infrequent purchases from has my credit card info on file. This is the only company where I use this credit card. I do not carry this card nor do I use it for any other purposes. I recently logged on to the credit card's website to pay my bill. I was shocked to find 4 recent transactions totaling over $500 that I could not identify. Coincidentally they were each made in Canada. The company that I do business with is located in Canada. I live in the United States. The transactions where for $100 at a towing company, $115.00 in make-up/skincare products, $200 in herbal supplements/remedies, and $125.00 in cellular airtime. I reported my card lost or stolen immediately. I also went online to find the phone numbers of each company that was on my bill. To make a long story short, I now have the contact info of the guy that used my card. He works for the company that I do business with. How do I proceed to ensure he is fired from his job and charges are filed?

A Company that I do business with used my credit card for leisure!?
You need to file a police report first. Do not take no for an answer from the police, who often don't want to bother with the report. You need the report. Then you go to the company owner or senior management. A call to the District Attorney's office (or equivalent) in the city would not hurt either. Make sure that the CC company knows that these are fraudulent charges.

Don't forget to put Fraud Alerts on your credit report with all three major credit bureaus.
Reply:As the other contributor stated, first file a police report. However, since this is out of the local police department's jurisdiction, you may need to contact the FBI for further assistance or the law enforcement division in Canada (you can do this via e-mail). Furthermore, as for the guy who did this, you should contact the company's Compliance/Law department and advise them of the situation..

Hope that helps..

Online textbook fraud?

An online bookstore company, efollett.com, is trying to get $145 from me but not send me the textbook. I bought it a week ago and was expecting it to come the following week (2 business day shipping). It hasn't come yet and I've contacted them 4 times but they tell me to contact the campus bookstore that I got it through. The problem with that is that they ignore my e-mails and lie to me when I go to talk to them in person. They say it will come today, to contact efollett.com, and the last time they said they ordered it from the publisher. But none of this has worked and I believe they're lying to me. So is there something (to do in person or a website) that can help me with this situation. It's also important that I get the book soon before the semester ends. I can't get the book from anywhere else because the lab cd is only for the school I'm going to. Thanks.

Runing a business... need Help?

I wanna Start my own Business but since I'm a student now, I don't have the kind of money to open a store. So at this time I don't plan on have one, but is there a way where I can sell my products? a way that people can see it easily...online seems the most obvious way... but how much does it cost to have a domain?

Runing a business... need Help?
EBay! All the way!

No for real. You can set up your own store once you sell a lot! It's a great thing! All you have to pay are a few cents on each auction! Also, Amazon.com will sell your stuff for you!

I design all-natural cosmetics for all women and launched my company in late '06. Within 2 weeks of launching, Jane Magazine expressed interest %26amp; contacted us, and an online men's magazine did a write-up about our men's products.

Well, Jane went under before featuring our prods %26amp; we can't afford to pay anybody to use our cosmetics in fashion editorials, which would give us maximum exposure %26amp; cost 70% less than outright advertising. Home based business for stay at home mom?

I have a 10 month old and I am trying to find a home based business that will work for me and my family. I have looked up the following companies:

Pampered Chef

Avon

Mary Kay

Princess House

Discovery Toys

Tealightful Treasures

At Home America

Southern Living At Home

Have any of you had any success with these companies? or know of any other companies?

I do have a full time, evening, and weekend, job so my time to actually do parties is limited. I am looking for something I can do more catalog parties and online sales with. Eventually my goal would be to go part time at my current job.

I am great with the computer. Any suggestions would be great.

Home based business for stay at home mom?
You might want to start by providing a personal service. I would recommend going to:

http://www.50dollarsaday.com-secret.info

The ad says "even an 11 year old can do it". Watch/listen to the video. Basically this is providing an easy, little known service for a few bucks a day. You won't make millions but it's not surveys or ebay and it's not a scam. It does take a little time to set up, though.
Reply:I have found a lot of financial freedom with Tupperware, and been able to stay at home with my two kids. Tupperware is the highest compensated of all the direct sales businesses. In fact, watch CBS Nightly news with Katie Couric tonight, they are doing a segment about good jobs during bad times. You don't have to do parties, you can do catalog parties and online sales. In fact, one of the top sales people in the company does online sales only. It is a very versatile business. If you have any questions just contact me through my website, and I can answer any questions!

I enjoy the work I do and its very flexible to do around my full time job and my one year old. You can go to www.freedomathometeam.com/trhonda2000 for more info.

Reply:I have a great business that I do from home and I can operate in 19 countries, it’s possible because of deregulation of essential services. We market services that people have and use every single day so it’s not like we have to try to convince people to buy something. Just think did you think about who was going to get paid when you made a phone call or switched on your internet to read this? Imagine that you can tap into this income by helping people save on services that they already use every day, and you dont have to go back to your clients every month to sell them more phone or internet, they just keep using it, its like breathing. To have a look at our business model and see my recommendation, please go to http://www.jnt.acnrep.com It may or may not be for you though definitely worth a look, thanks for your question.
Reply:I work for a company, Alpine Access, where we do customer service from home. It is doing phone work, and you would still need a sitter for the baby as you will be taking calls. My mom watches my little girl while im working, and i get to go see her for my breaks! If interested check out their website, AlpineAccess.com. Its a high quality product that people buy for themselves and make wonderful gifts as well. Its a reputable company and been around for 10 yrs. Just opened up in Canada and the UK. I have processed orders online and from catalogs as well, although the major bucks come from parties which last 2-3 hrs and each can avg $250 profit easily.

Of the list, and pertaining to your situation, I would recommend AVON. You have contacts with work who will readily become your customers. You don't have to do parties. AVON sells itself, and there is room for advancement and hefty commissions. They also offer distributors a website.

The other companies, while also excellent, revolve around parties and sporadic sales. Your AVON customers will purchase every two weeks from you.

Starting a business involved with wood?

I have this idea of painting wooden items such as bowls and small trinket boxes. I'm good at painting horses and I think this would sell nicely to the right crowd.

How would I go about starting this business? The major problem I'm running into now is that I can't find nice affordable wood around here (Provo, Utah) and the best I can find is cheap wood sold at a high price at 'Robert's Arts and Crafts.'

It seems hopeless and I want to give up, but I really want to do this and so I keep pressing on, trying to find wholesale wood to at least start/practice on.

I've done tons of research online. Specifically I guess I'm asking how I go about finding good quality wood.

Starting a business involved with wood?
The only things I could find were wholesale websites. I know that Home Depot or Lowes doesn't carry wooden bowls though. Sorry.
Reply:There should be a Lowe's or Home Depot or other home improvement center there. They all sell lumber.

Online Dating/Let the man Chase?

I met a man online and we have been talking for over 3 weeks now, via email and phone. I’m 35 years old and he’s 37 years old. He lives in Atlanta and I live in Dallas. He owns his own business so he has some flexibility with his schedule. I am off weekends.

I have gone above and beyond the call of duty where relationships go in the past, only to be disappointed, and I don’t want to repeat old patterns with this person.

Here’s the deal, sorry I got so winded:

He would rather wait until he’s tied up a few loose ends on his end before he comes my way, because he wants to come for a whole week or so, of course getting his own hotel, etc. I on the other had opened up my big moutlast night and said that I need to come there on the 23 May, which is Memorial Day weekend.

What do you all think? Do you think he should be the one that comes out the first time we meet each other? Do you think I should just be patient and let him chase me?

Online Dating/Let the man Chase?
I think its ok for you to meet him being that you'll be there anyways.. just because you'll be doing it first instead of him doesn't mean that your falling into your old patterns, its all about how you allow him to perceive you while and after doing it... you can still make him chase you, even though you'll be going there first...

I live in New York state, and am considering registering my business (internet - ad supported) as an LLC in Delaware. I don't sell any products - I only provide online content. Would I need to register as a foreign LLC in New York? Am I considered to be "doing business" in New York if only my office is located here and all revenue is from internet ads?

Do I need to register my internet business as a foreign corporation?
There is no good reason for you to register your business in Delaware. There are certain tax advantages for LARGE firms who choose to register in Delaware, but since you are in New York State, the simplest thing to do is to register as a New York corporation.

By doing that, you will limit your paperwork to one state, not two, and if you have an S-Corp, or an LLC, you will have all the protections and benefits that you would if you registered in Delaware.

Good luck.

Reply:Being scared is natural. Don't worry about being scared and worried, that will keep you motivated and focused. However, if you can't deal with the stress, it may not be the best thing for you. With 10 years experience you should know how to do the work, so the question is do you have the skills needed to run your own business?

You need to read as many stories as possible from other small business owners to learn as much as you can and avoid the big mistakes. You can avoid all of them, but small mistakes won't drive you out of business. Yes, you need a business plan, but I didn't have one when I went on my own. I was laid off with 4 other people and at age 52 I wasn't sure what kind of job I would find. Lucky for me I had been working at my own business part-time for about 10 years, so while looking for a new job and applying for unemployment I started marketing my business like crazy! I never found a job and stopped looking after about 4 months. I also never had to take any unemployment money, but the first year was not easy.

I think you need to focus first on what skills you have, like doing taxes, then add insurance, then real estate. Depending on your location. just one of those could be a good career, and trying to offer too many things may keep you from being really good at any one of them. Or you might be a full-service type of person which would be great.

I'd get some books on running your own business. The basics are not very hard with the main thing to market your business more when things are slow, and make sure you put enough aside for taxes and health insurance. You may find you are working a LOT more for about the same amount of money, still the freedom can really be worth it.

Good luck,

Chris

Iam opening a nail salon, what kind of business structure do i need?

i am opening a nail salon. i went online to get more info, and the first step was to choose a structure. but there are many:

sole proprietorship

corporations

texas business corporations

texas profesional corporations

limited liability company

what is the best one. i am going to be the only one there working. but i dont want the business to have anything to do with me. if the business goes under i dont want them to come after me and my peronsal things. what would be the best choice?

Iam opening a nail salon, what kind of business structure do i need?
The best choice would be a corporation if you don't want any liability at all. Only problem is, you will have to pay unemployment compensation tax on yourself, so it will be extra money out of pocket. For the type of business your end, what is the real risk of someone suing you or you going into an extreme amount of debt? Those risks exist, but they are much lower for some types of businesses. you should consult your insurance agent; if the risk is low, try an LLC instead of a corp.
Reply:An S Corp. It is like being sole prop. but has the liability controls of a regular corp.

You pay yourself a salary and any "profits" are taxed at your income rates. You don't pay social security or medicare on the profits portion, so you are effectively saving 15.4% in taxes. Your salary should be an amount similar to what you would pay someone to manage your business. As you can see, there are advantages if you don;t pay yourself too much by saving on the taxes.

As an officer of the corporation you don't need to pay the unemployment taxes. But you should always check with an accountant for your state.

Apply online credit card from American express credit card company is right decision or not?

Apply online credit card from American express credit card company is right decision or not? What sort of things does American Express look at when applying for a card, especially for business?

Apply online credit card from American express credit card company is right decision or not?
Sure it's ok to apply online. They will check prior credit history. Personally I'd rather apply for Visa.
Reply:You can apply online for a credit card, its a lot faster than doing it over the phone or mail. For business credit cards they really look at how well your business is doing, if it is making a profit, and its a ability to pay off a loan.

Reply:not really a good idea to get a credit card full stop.
Reply:if you think the credit card company is credible enough then its ok, but make sure first that its the company you can trust.

"I have a small service base business. I would like to be able to accept credit card payments.?

I think I have lost some customers because I can not accept credit card payments. If I am a small new business where should I turn. I do have a separate business checking account. Is CitiBank a worthwhile look or am I looked over as a small company? I think online and swipe machine would be perfect.

"I have a small service base business. I would like to be able to accept credit card payments.?
Go ahead and accept credit card payments if your losing customers. I personally have not heard anything bad about CitiBank. You should not be over looked because you are a small company. I do hear how bad Pay Pal is. I use SPS, and have the Vx570 terminal. When you look for equipment online there are many processors who try to charge you for every little thing.Read all paperwork before you sign up with a company. Don't pay for annual fees, application fees, start up costs, equipment, software, or training.Get a low discount rate and low transaction fee.Ask questions and shop around and see what is best for you and your business.
Reply:Simple Payment Systems is truly the absolute best for credit card and electronic check processing. The electronic check processes the check like a credit card. So the check is deposited into your account ASAP from your business. If it is bad you know right away. I have done research for a long time. They give you free swipe machines of your choice, free training, free software- with a check out cart! (so you can have credit cards from your customers processed from your web site) They beat discount rate quotes that you give them too. They have 24 hour live help, which is handy. Make sure you tell them you want the free program. We switched from another company over to them. And have never been happier. Go to their web site and call them or fill out the form and they can contact you. I did countless hours of research! Trust me they are the BEST.

Best wishes!
Reply:You're right that you definitely need to accept credit cards. Especially if you're doing any business online there's really no other viable options.

You could try to get your own merchant account with your bank but new businesses are often turned down. Besides that, the startup costs and monthly fees can be pretty high. Still, if you're in it for the long run you should talk to your bank about it and plan to get a merchant account sometime in the future.

In the meantime there are some other options that are actually better in the short term. You can take payment for services using so-called third party processors like Paypal. The fees are a little higher but it's quick and easy to set up.

But your best bet is probably a service called Accept-by-Phone.com

This is ideal for a service business, especially if you're mobile. With Accept-by-Phone.com you can forget about a terminal or swipe machine. You can process credit card payments through any touch-tone phone, including cell phones. It's quick and easy to get started, almost everyone is approved, the fees are low and there are no minimum use obligations. All for $5 a month.

This really adds a whole new level of flexibility for small businesses.
Reply:If you have a very small business (under $1000 per month) you may want to use paypal. Here are some links.
Reply:Since you are a small business ask at your own bank. Most all banks have credit card merchant services they offer to their business customers. If they don't they can direct you to a good company. There are way too many dishonest credit card processors out there. Most anyone can be one and there is no insurance you will get paid in a timly manor. Many also charge transactions fees, statement fees, application fees etc. They offer you a low rate and if you figure out all the fees your actually paying more then you should. First data Reasources is a decent processing company and they have many approved vendors around the globe, but check with your bank first. What ever company you use set up a seperate bank account for all your credit card payments. Make sure that your fees are billed onece a month and not taken off each transaction. You also want to ask you bank if they charge you a fee for incoming credit card payment transfers, some do and each credit card transaction could cost you as much as $35 in bank charges if your not careful. Ask your bank!!. If they do I would change banks. Many of the smaller banks work with small business better then the big boys. I have used a small regional bank called "Commerce Bank" with out haveing such fees. I have also used "North Fork" that does charge for every transaction that his the account. Shop around and be careful.
Reply:You need a merchant. Our merchant is Pay Pal. We process hundreds of orders per day and Pay Pal does a good job at handling the credit card transactions. You might want to consider a minimum purchase amount for credit card usage. Ours is $100.
Reply:Just about anyone can use the credit card services, We are a small dog breeder and get offers to use their services.

Stop by any local Wall*Mart store and talk to the store manager about who to contact in your area to get started.

But, be aware, you can be opening a can of worms.....

Credit cards can be a hassle when people call and cancel payment on you. They can wind you up in court over work you did. If they aren't happy, you can be the looser. AND even though you can run it through a couple of times, you can get banned by the cc company. (****CARE-FULL***)
Reply:Have you checked it out?

Not having a credit card portal doesn't mean that you're a goner. It's just one of many ways to accept payments. Obviously, as you have experienced firsthand, it's wise to have multiple options available, especially since I believe you're thinking of expanding in the future.

Give them or any other local banks a call, I'm sure there are packages for small business like yours.

The problems is not that they will look over you. They will NEVER look over you if you're a small company. It is how they charge you for using their credit card services. From what I understand, visa/master charges 3%, amex more than 4%, etc. I believe some also have minimum volume or volume based charges while some have flat subscription fees on top of their percentage charges.

Who knows, even paypal might be a possible option, depending on the situation.

Like I said, the best is to simply give them a call coz they're the ones providing the package.

Privite Online unsecured loans are they legit?

I'm in a nasty legal battle and I need 13,000 dollars. I have looked into online unsecured loans. I want to know if anyone has been scammed by using this method. They usually start out by saying I am a private/business loan officer. Blah Blah, but they are not from a bank and they have a yahoo handle. I am just trying to see if this is an option for me. Please let me know. Thanks!

Privite Online unsecured loans are they legit?
I suppose there could be legitimate lenders out there but there are so many scam artists operating out of foreign countries, I wouldn't trust any of them.

If they ask you for money up front, I wouldn't do it. Advance fee loans are all over the place now and as far as I know, they're all scams. See FTC warning on web link below.
Reply:Most are scams. You'd be better off going to a local bank or credit union or seeing if a family member could help you out. Even if the online place was legitimate, you'd be paying such outrageous interest on the loan that you'd never get it paid off.
Reply:Some on-line loans can be genuine; therefore it's no harm trying. Cut your communications if you're asked for upfront fee. I've recently tried one by a MikkyJames (from Mikky lenders) who operates out of Nigeria. I was told to remit US$300 as non-collateral fee. Being me, I've told them to deduct the fee from the loan amount. I've not heard from them since.. So, one needs to be smart enough to smell rats.

What kind of business can i start???

i wanna start a business dont know , any ideas? i want it to be simple and easy that doesnt require a lot of time .. i was thinking a travel agency online would that work or something else would be better?

What kind of business can i start???
My husband and I found the perfect business for us because it's all about travel. The community guidelines do not allow me to explain here, but feel free to contact me. There are soooo many opportunities out there and everyone feels like they have the best deal. It can be overwhelming. I think the key is to get into a business that has great leadership and is ground-floor (so you get in before momentum hits.)
Reply:My business has a simple system in place. Most people start off part time because that is all they want and once they see the income that they make, they go full time, well full time, but still work part time hours(10-20) a week. It is something worth looking at!
Reply:There are various ways to do home business, the real challenge is to find the legitimate program and follow it. I would recommend you to check the website below for review about some of the real money making programs.

What do you think of online degree programs?

I am looking to do my MBA and have been thinking of just going back to the same business school I did my BA in. I went to the University of Buffalo and it ranks in the top 50business schools in the US by Forbes. Should I do that instead of an online degree?

If you have an MBA how did you do it? Where did you go? and did it help you in career advancement?

I had a BA in Business concentrating in MIS and currently work in IT as an applications support analyst/help desk.

What do you think of online degree programs?
Some programs are absolutely outstanding. Others are the bottom of the pile. There are places like Duke U. doing their MBA online and that MBA has much more value than one from say, Eastern Yourstate State College in the classroom.

The thing is, online at a quality school is really hard. There's a lot of writing to do and you don't get the 1:1 time with the instructor. You have to be a top-notch manager of time to do well in these programs.

The best advice, attend the best school you can get into (online or classroom) and do the best quality work you are able while there.
Reply:You can order a Bachelor of Science or Arts on line I'm sure. But going to a college with a good name is my thing.
Reply:its better u continue your degree from university instead online...........
Reply:Online degrees are for people with disability and old people.
Reply:I say it depends on your learning style. In order to do it online, you must be well disciplined in setting your priorities, sitting down to study, doing homework/projects.

For me, an online degree wouldn't work. I'm a huge procrastinator, have 3 kids in school which means parent guided homework and it just plain doesn't keep my interest. I like the classroom setting.

I do have an instructor who's using Univ of Phoenix for his Masters.

Is it worthwhile to start online selling of clothing.some details and figures and successes maybe!?

I am running a business of textiles and men's n ladies fashion clothing.A friend suggested that I venture into online selling ,which he said has tremendous potential. He was talking to me from hearsay.Could someone, who is well acquainted with online sales, advise me if I should venture into this field.Would it be possible to provide some details, figures and success stories. And also how to go about starting it,if I have to.I will be obliged.

Is it worthwhile to start online selling of clothing.some details and figures and successes maybe!?
I worked in an environment where many of my customers were online sellers. many sold through EBay but some had other ways of selling online. Clothing on the internet, based on their feedback, was a fickle business. I think the problems they faced were slow sales because people couldn't be sure of sizes and colors. items may look one way on the computer screen and look different to the buyer when they got it. Actually, there is so much on the market in regards to clothing in general. One can buy clothing really cheap. Now if you have bargain basement prices on a supply of top name brands, then you may find you'll do a lot better. Tommy Hilfiger. Abercrombie, Levi's, Liz Claiborne, Old navy, etc.

Household textile products like draperies, bed linens, towels and such have performed overall much better than clothing. I had people who were brand new to marketing these products online and they grew from a few hundred dollars in sales per month to many thousands of dollars in sales per month in a relatively short period of time, say six months.

Go to Ebay and go to the categories of clothing or bed spreads and look at completed auctions. See what items draw what number of bids and their dollar values. This should also give you an indication as to what is moving out there and how much those items bring. Balance it against your supply cost and remember to figure in what your online marketing costs will be.

Where can i find online Automobile Engineering?

Hi there!

I've completed my Diploma in Automobile Engg. (DAE) %26amp; i've entered into business.

But i want to pursue engineering as well (B.E.)

Please let me know about any institution offering the Engineering course online.

(Automobile engineering is preferred while i'm also considering mehanical engineering if it's offered online).

Thank you.

Where can i find online Automobile Engineering?
While I don't know much about online schools, my impression from having been in engineering is that it's going to be awfully difficult to understand the field without lab work, especially when you reach the upper level classes, given that it's more of an applied and not a theoretical field.

Now speaking from the perspective of my school (University of Michigan), we don't have a separate auto engineering degree, but a very large number of people in mechanical engineering end up in automobile-related jobs. It does help when Ford, GM, and Chrysler are all dumping money into your program, so I think there's a fair amount of emphasis on auto stuff.

Why Why do all online jobs offered applicants have to use their credit card?

most online jobs where one applies for money per survey, each has to use his or her own real credit card and more than likely ends up paying for their product. even though its a paid survey, but each is giving out private data. I suggest that each company in this business give each applicant a non- money credit card to use for each paying survey. otherwise each is being scammed for private credit card numbers and inside information on all data on each applicant by each offering you online jobs. Its either a company thats honorable and will give you a non-cash credit card or each applicant is being dupped out of private data and private credit card information.

Why Why do all online jobs offered applicants have to use their credit card?
Because they are all scams! They want your credit card number because they are going to charge you for something. They want all your personal info so they can sell it to spammers and junk mail lists.
Reply:because you're letting yourself be scammed.

no LEGITIMATE job offer depends on you paying.
Reply:Sounds like a scam to me.

Name a new Business?

Hi,

I'm creating an online store to sell high quality paper and Cards. I aim to offer a personalised Card service (we send direct to recipient) and we also differentiate from other competitors by offering handmade cards. This is a general summary of our business model. We are looking for names for a company and would like the word "card" incoporated into the title.

Can you think of any names for our company. Also would you use our company?

There already is a website, cardempire.com. If that's your site, you should change the colors so it is legible. It's too much trouble to read as it is now. Most greeting card websites are kind of open and cheery, with lots of white/light space. Dark is depressing.

Just wondering ... If you're gonna ask us for names for your company ... are you next gonna ask us for cute messages for your greeting cards? You are gonna have to pay us for that ... or at least give us some free sample cards.
Reply:The naming of your business could be one of the most important decisions you will make. A name's originality and legal availability will create a real asset value of its own, as it becomes marketed and gains market acceptance.

The name you choose will become the focal point of all the benefits and features that relate to your business. Customers will be able to find and refer others to it in the future.

Since any names that are suggested here may already be owned by another party, I wanted to go a different route...

I suggest either hiring a name creation firm or get together with your friends and/or family and throw a "name party" %26amp; have everyone bounce some ideas around. Compile a listing of names that you like the best. Once you have that list, do as much free research as you can before you delve into comprehensive research.

I listed some links where you can do some preliminary name checking. However, please be aware that this is merely scratching the surface of what's out there.

Only comprehensive research will tell you if the name is truly available. But, these links are free %26amp; a great place to start, so I'd try them out first.

Comprehensive research consists of looking at marks that are similar in Sound, Appearance or Meaning in the pending %26amp; registered Federal AND State trademark files as well as the US National Common-Law files.

There are other sites that offer free searching capabilities in conjunction with their commercial services, so I'm not able to post those links due to the Yahoo! TOS. You'll also want to check domain names %26amp; yellow pages, so simply do a search for "free domain name search" and "national yellowpages" and the appropriate links will pop up.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success %26amp; happiness in all your ventures!

How can you register your new business name?

I am in the process of starting a new business (1st time b.o.) and I wanted to know what is the process of registering the name of the business and where to check if it's already taken and I can't use it. I've been searching online but so far I haven't been able to find useful information. I would really appreciate some help.

How can you register your new business name?
To protect a business name within your industry, you would apply for a trademark.

Trademarks can be names of products or services, logos, slogans, packaging and even sounds and smells. In essence, a trademark can be almost anything that is used to identify a particular product or service. Registering a trademark grants the owner exclusive rights to the mark within the specified industry.

Of course, it's necessary to research the mark comprehensively prior to filing to ensure that there is no possibility of infringing upon another party.

This entails searching the pending %26amp; registered Federal and State trademark files as well as the US National Common-Law files. Then, if clear, you can decide if you would like to file for a Federal or a State trademark.

To register a trademark, that's done either through your Secretary of State for a State trademark or the US Patent %26amp; Trademark Office for a Federal trademark.

If you are only conducting business in one state, then a State trademark is most appropriate. If you conduct (OR are planning to conduct) business in at least 2 states OR between the US %26amp; any other country, you can file for a Federal trademark.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success %26amp; happiness in all your ventures!

What is the quickest and easiest way to start building business credit?

I started an online internet company in may 2007. So far we have built up several domain names, established and online and just got our EIN, federal tax id#, I need to know what the quickest way is to build business credit without using my personal fica score? Right now our business has no credit except for the net worth of our company, valajio networks!

What is the quickest and easiest way to start building business credit?
The best way to establish credit is to ask the people you wish to establish credit with. Go to a bank and ask them. They'll probably advise you to borrow some money on a 90-day note. You may have to put something up for collateral, including cash in an escrow account.
Reply:I assume you have a bank account in the company's name. Get income, pay wages, pay taxes.

Only a fool would loan you "business credit" at this time. Any and all credit will be based on your FICO score and will be underwritten by you. If the business fails, they will expect YOU to pay them back.
Reply:What about opening a secured credit account?

Any good e-business ideas?

I am 15 years old, and I'm quite the entrepreneur. Over the summer, I made good money buying things in bulk and then reselling them on eBay. This was a good strategy for me, however, now that I'm back in school, I no longer have time to operate it.

I know there are plenty of routes for me to take e-business wise, and I have a few good ideas of my own. I need something that is fairly easy to operate...maybe some sort of service or product that doesn't require shipping, something I can do fully on my computer/online.

Any good e-business ideas?
Here are some good ebusiness ideas

1. User Generated Sites - Think of the mega-successful site MySpace.com, the prime hangout of over 65 million mostly young people (and those who want to reach them) where users built their own little profiles, adding photos, videos, blogs or music.

2. Think Casual - With broadband increasingly available, more and more people are using the Web to do even the most casual activities – chatting, connecting with friends, or sharing photos and videos.

3. Google Adsense - contextual advertising is hot right now with Google Adsense at the forefront.

4. Search Engine Marketing -- Search engine marketing has become a critical component in increasing awareness of a website and getting customers to buy products or services on the Web.

5. Online Classifieds -- According to JupiterResearch, U.S. online classifieds is forecast to grow from $2.6 billion in 2005 to over $4 billion in 2010.

6. Power of Mix and Match -- Called “mashaps” or mix-and-match, they serve as aggregators, filters and organizers of available content.

Top Online Gaming Sites?

Ok, so I'm curious as to which video game sites online are considered the most reputable, comprehensive, and corporate sponsored. There are a bazillion "indie" gaming sites that I don't pay much attention to..I want to know which ones are visited by a lot of people and are run sort of like a business. I know of Gamespot.com...any others?

Is there a business that will develop a disposable camera into full-size digital shots and skip the prints?

I keep my photos digitally. I do not want prints. All the brick %26amp; mortor shops are set up only for people who want prints. All the online shops are set up for people who want digital low-res shots and who will order prints. I just want digital, full res files without paying to get prints made. I also do not need photos on a CD, I'm happy to download them. I'm just looking for a business that handles this market.

Is there a business that will develop a disposable camera into full-size digital shots and skip the prints?
Ritz Cameras and many others will develop your film and scan the negatives. They only have the capability to burn it to a CD, but you can ask for no prints without a problem. I worked at Ritz for almost 5 years and I myself do not get prints when I have film developed.
Reply:JEN is wrong, look for a Telecine place, like: Avid or atlab, they can process your film and scan the negative into a computer as a positive and download, etc. to you
Reply:for a disposable camera you have to put the pictures into print form before they can be made digital... because the image is made as a negative on film, it has to be made into a positive print before it can be scanned into a computer as digital.

So I think the answer to your question is that you need to spend the money on a decent digital camera.

Is online banking really safe?

okay i know when u get a cell phone or even start an account in a bank the business actually does put ur personal info in the internet....so r there systems any safer than ours? or is it really about the same...if not so wouldnt it be the same security as if u used online banking?

Is online banking really safe?
Large banks do not use the Internet to transfer data. The use optical fiber which can not be sniffed. Smaller banks may use the Internet to transfer data and if they are surely using VPN's with 128-bit encryption.

If worked in IT for several large banks, they are totally safe. Been using online banking for 12 years now.
Reply:I believ it is everyday billions of dollars are transfered online. I do all my banking bill paying online and I'm not a computer expert.

The key is to use a username and password that no one knows only u that would be very hard to figure out. Then make sure you are on YOUR banks website. Sometimes scammers send you an email asking u to logon to the banks website but, it is a fake site that looks exactly like your bank (allmost) and they steal your user name and password right out from under you. Just remember the web is just like the real world some people are bad some are good u just need to use good common sense and be smart about who u give ure persoanl info too.
Reply:the best we can ask for is that the protocol used is https if you are signing up or banking on a site that just logs you in with http be very wary good banks will lock up the site with encryption.
Reply:online banking is pretty safe. I use Bank of America, and I know that they have a specific program that kicks in every time you log. When you sign up, you get a "picture" of something.. apple, tree, whatever. Then, everytime you are asked for your password, you see that picture. This means that if at any time someone tries to "pop" a page at you for your passwords, you will know, since they dont have the correct "picture". As a computer security major, I can tell you that these people are doing everything in their power to keep you safe. I have seen some of these security programs.. and you simply cant get past all their tripwires :)
Reply:Online banking transactions are 128 bit encrypted so it's very safe from hackers, but don't use any kind of password manager to that in the event that your computer gets stolen, they can't take your money.
Reply:Online banking is very safe. The Banks use Encryption. I recommend you talk to your bank or a bank about this. I use online banking and rarely have to visit my bank. I love it and feel completely safe using it.
Reply:Yes I believe so.

Make sure the URL reads: https://

make sure the URL has an s after the http.

This ensures it is a secure server.
Reply:i love online banking...really convenient...really fast...just helps ur day go a lot better...

What do you think about this business name?

I am planning on opening a shop online and selling out of my home, scrubs. I will make them custom and try to sell across the USA if possible....anyhow. What do you think about this name for my new business?

SCRUB LOVE

SCRUB LUV

SCRUBS LUV

SCRUBS LOVE

Which one do you like best, or do you have any other ideas?

Also, if you have time...I ask that you please visit my other question about getting an answer from all the states in the USA. That will help me to expand my business...thank you! = )

{If you don't know how; click on my avatar and that will take you to my profile.}

Thanks to everyone in advance! = )

What do you think about this business name?
Hey!

I like your business idea! I can't tell you how many times I've wondered why they don't make more fashionable scrubs?! Afterall, there's definitely a market out there for them! Anyway, there's no question that your business name should refelct how innovative, fun, and unique your scrubs will be. I can't help you pick a name but here's an article that might help you find the perfect one:

Good luck!
Reply:Here is a totally different approach to getting a name for your scrubs business that is both fun and involves your best friends.

Try this link: http://www.ychange.com/ychangeblog/?p=78... and follow the suggestions.

Good Luck
Reply:SCRUBS LOVE sounds good. Everytime someone use newer spelling of old words they don't last long or even start off. It sounds bogus.
Reply:I'm sorry if I'm being obtuse, but I don't really get the Love bit. It may be cos I'm an Aussie, though.

Anyhow, names.

Scrubbers (which would be pretty funny over here)

Private Scrubs (with a private's chevron as logo)

Unique Scrubs

Custom Scrubs

Singular Scrubs

I'm supposing that you would actually want to promote the major selling point, here. The fact that they are hand-made %26amp; unique is very special %26amp; should be emphasised.

Good luck!

Just thought of one more:

Scrapbooking online store?

i am wondering, if i were to open an online scrapbooking store with really great low prices, a whole variety of products both old and new and barely any knowledge on the materials, how sucessful will my business be?

Scrapbooking online store?
Those are ingredients of a successful retail store -- except for your comment "barely any knowledge on the materials."

An online store is unlike a traditional store where you can put the materials on shelves and let customers inspect and look at it and decide if the material is what they want. An online store relies on great pictures and SALES COPY -- meaning the description of the product, what is the size, what is it made of, and other selling points of the material. If you don't know what the material is and possibly suggest ways scrapbookers can use this (e.g. material is great for decorative painting or for use with journaling).

One important consideration is whether you can actually get low prices for your online store. There's been a great debate in the scrapbooking community where suppliers PREFER to sell to traditional merchants and make it hard for online sellers to purchase from them. I hope you won't encounter this bias against online sellers.

Scrapbooking may look like a hobby a bored housewife might indulge in, but apparently it is big business. A study conducted by Creating Keepsakes magazine in 2004 called “Scrapbooking in America”™ (SIA) http://www.simplescrapbooksmag.com/press... survey showed :

- Annual sales of scrapbooking industry is at $2.551 billion, representing a 27.8 percent increase from 2001.

- There are 4.4 million new scrapbooking households since 2001, for a total of over 26 million households and 32.1 million scrapbookers.

- Spending on scrapbooking supplies by households that scrapbook has increased 6.3 percent to $96.76 annually since 2001.

- Almost one in four, or 24.5 percent of U.S. households, participate in the hobby of scrapbooking, with Western states showing the most households involved in the hobby (between 26–31 percent of households).

Palo Alto has a sample business plan for a scrapbooking company, but it is not free http://www.paloalto.com/ps/bp/samplebusi...
Reply:probably good, if you advertised it well enough.
Reply:As long as you have the desire to learn about the industry you'll be working in, you will have a good shot at success. I have worked in various industries over the years that I knew nothing about but day by day I learned more and more from my customers. At 18 I worked in a hardware store. What did I know about plumbing, replacing glass, mixing paint??? As I talked to the people around me, talked to vendors, talked to customers, I began to learn so much ... and you will too. The most important thing is to make sure that your customers know about your products and services. Having the greatest website in the world isn't going to generate any cash unless scrapbook enthusiasts know about your business and those really great low prices and whole variety or products you are mentioning. As a small business owner what would you pay for a one day seminar to learn how to market your website?

I teach small business owners how to market websites and would like to know what a fair price is for a one day seminar (6-8 hours) about online marketing.

Thanks for your feedback.

As a small business owner what would you pay for a one day seminar to learn how to market your website?
You will get faster and more accurate responses by simply searching the web and looking for websites of your competitors. Then you can find the going rate for your type of seminar.
Reply:like the other respondent: check the opposition. Here in Australia, our local {NSW State govt} has seminars for A$20/four hours which of course is subsidised-but aimed at start up entrepeneurs. This would not be the only country in the world to do this: I found in general most advise spurious, trite, prolix even, rarely insightfull. and it is a tough market-though it can get you mega-bucks. so lower your price!-at first.

Or: get people to subscribe to your newletter-then you don't have to even get out of bed!

PS: if you do have good advice you can contact me via Yahoo groups [I am almostvoid]. I have yet to discover a guru who can tell me something I don't know! You might be it!

Good luck.

How credible is an online degree versus traditional?

im considering going back to school and getting a business degree. i have a full time job and dont have the luxury of going the traditional college route. im afraid the only way ill ever get my degree is if i get it from an online program. does that online degree hold the same weight as a traditional one in the employers eyes?

How credible is an online degree versus traditional?
Most employers do not give much credence to degrees from "online universities" like University of Phoenix / Axia, AIU, Capella, Penn Foster, etc.

However, many longstanding, regionally accredited, and completely reputable state universities now offer courses and even degrees online. This is called "distance education."

The links below are the absolute best you will find. They contain more links to many well-respected state university distance education programs.

What distinguishes these sorts of programs is that the courses are generally transferable between regionally accredited institutions. Sometimes, the degrees offered are identical to those earned on campus.

I would advise you to start by looking at the state university system in the state in which you live, and check to see if they offer the programs and courses in which you are interested. If not, check some other state universities. (Pennsylvania has a great system, for instance.)

Just avoid the "online universities." These for-profit businesses are not the same as non-profits institutions of higher education, and they are notorious for not delivering on their promises. I can also assure you that these degrees are laughed at in academia.

Note: In institutions of higher education, regional accreditation is better than national accreditation. This sounds odd, but I assure you that it is the case. The regional accreditors are:

Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSACS)

New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC)

North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS)

Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NCCU)

Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC)

Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS)

If a program is not accredited by one of these associations, it is best to stay away.

Best wishes to you, and good for you for asking the question before wasting your money!
Reply:You are so welcome. That's why I answer questions on this site... hoping to give some valuable information to people who might benefit from it.

I wish you every success! Report It

Reply:An on-line degree isn't as good as a degree from a regular college (as far as reputation goes) but they aren't bad.

Good Luck!!!
Reply:Only because you're already employed, I would say go for it on-line. I always say that the degree is only as good as what you really can do.

I've been a CEO, etc. and somewhat frown on a lot of the on-line degrees for those who have no real experience. However, if all you need to apply for a job is degree, it gets you past that hurddle.

Good Luck!
Reply:The answer above this is a great answer. (and I copied part of his answer below) Listen to what that guy says about the online schools, especially about the accreditation

BUT I would also say that even with accreditation you have to be careful. When a school is accredited it only happens for about a week and only once in about 5 -10 years. So the accreditation is very minimal. It at least certifies that the school really exists, but it doesnt certify that the program is a good one. That's why they have rankings!

Reply:Be very wary of on line courses unless sponsored by a ministry recognized university.

Those not linked to a university are just out to get your money.

Even a university on line program will not hold the same weight as a traditional course. Formal classes force you to attend and complete assignments whereas it is so easy to get lazy with on line programs by putting them off until it is too late to catch up.
Reply:Get it from a regular university/college. Stay away from those TV advertised places, they won't help you get a job at all. Employers don't really care for those degrees.

At the college I am at right now, the online classes are the same exact information and assignments as on campus. Look for something like that.
