How do I get a business license??

I am working on getting my freelance graphic design business started, but I have no idea where to start with the "legal" stuff. How do I get a license? About how much would one cost? I've been researching online, but I am still lost. Any websites? something??? Please help.

Go to City Hall. I'm not sure which department, but somebody there would be able to help you get appropriate paperwork completed to apply for the license.
Reply:I started a biz. It depends on which state you operate out of. Each state is different. Texas required that I register with the state (i.e. a unique business name and number) and that I register with the federal government and get an EIN (Employer identification number). It cost me $400 (limited partnership) for Texas and free to get an EIN. Also depends on the type of biz you register.
