I'm trying to send money to a friend through Western Union. I went to their website and they gave me the option of either economy (which takes three business days) or "money in minutes" which sends the money immediately. I was wondering if you can choose both of these options if you're sending it from a grocery store (one of their "agents") or if the "money in minutes" option is only available online.
I need to know ASAP. Thank you very much.
Western Union: online or at a store?
As others have said, you can use either the online or agent service to send money by Western Union, but either way is expensive.
If your friend has an ATM card and a local bank, you can make a deposit in the friends account. He or she can then go to any ATM where he is and withdraw the money immediately, and there will be only a couple of bucks in service fees. It's faster and cheaper than Western Union or Moneygram. I have used this system several times in emergencies, and it really works.
Another option, if your friend has a credit card: you can use most Mastercard or Visa cards (and all American Express Cards) to make a cash advance. Again, you can usually do this at most or all ATM machines. And the fees are fairly modest (typically a few dollars plus the interest that accrues until you pay off the advance). So the cost is more than the first method, but still way cheaper than Western Union.
Good luck!!
Reply:WESTERN UNION IS A RIP OFF!
I spent about $55 in fees just to send someone $300 a few months ago. Try MoneyGram.com instead. I wish I had known about it before. It's only $15 I believe and you can do it online or at a store. It will arrive just as fast and your friend will still be able to pick it up in minutes. I was wiring money to an entirely different country using MoneyGram and it ended up being 5 times cheaper than if I would of used Western Union. The fees are so rediculous. Save your money!
Here's the price checker to figure out what your fees would be...
