Tips for starting an ebay business selling infant, kids clothing? Advice Appreciated.?

I want to start an ebay business , selling infant - toddler clothing. I wanted to know whats the best way to purchase inventory. I dont want to deal with dhgate, alibaba, or any other chinese marketplace. ( Scams).

I would like advice from ebay sellers that have been selling for over 2 yrs successfully. I was thinking about purchasing from local people posting clothing for sale in the craigslist. Or should I shop at cosignment stores / resale shops? I am confused. I dont know where to start. I have been doing research online for a while, and I know the basics toward selling on eBay. The only advice I need is where to purchase clothing at reasonable prices, to turn a profit.

Thanks in Advance.

I used to be a successful seller of alternative baby blankets and clothes on ebay.. I stopped because I started getting sick and tired of the decaying service they have and higher listing prices and fees etc...

anyway... but if you want to do it here's some tips..

learn basic HTML get a cute background friendly listings, lots of pictures!

if you are going to have a lot of inventory I recommend paying for the store in the long run it's cheaper..

buy from consignments and also I recommend buying huge end of season sales.. for example after christmas sales at childrens place, Gymboree etc... January they usually get rid of cold weather clothing for cheap.. buy the good deals and save them to sell new with tags next fall before winter.

buy craigslist.. you can even sell on caigslist too..

Search for the top selling brands like Gymboree. Look for unique one of a kind pieces at flea markets etc.. clothing "lots" are also great to sell.. or buying for re-selling,

Good luck!

Reply:I have been a power seller on ebay for many years, I would strongly consider building your own website to sell your goods.

As for where to buy your inventory.....IF YOU WANT TO SUCCEED, BUY DIRECTLY FROM THE MANUFACTURER.

What we see happening in the news and ebay right now is actually history in the making, Ebay is in serious trouble, the fees are too high, unhappy buyers and sellers, many many many lawsuits. Also it funny you mentioned alibaba and dhgate, the only sell counterfeit and fake items on those sites...trust me, I know all too well.

Build yourself a legitimate business and only use Ebay(while it lasts) as small part of your business.

On a strickly business point of view as a seller, heres an example to consider.

Suppose to wanted to sell an infant sleeper, lets say a babygap sleeper.

Lets assume its value in a store was $55

On ebay it would sell for maybe $30

your cost???? $10? $20?

ebay fees for a $30 item......$4.00

paypal fee.................................1.50

How much did you make????

Forget about ebay.....sell on your own website!!

I would contact manufacturers and distributors of infant clothing in your city, they are there....you just have to find them, and buy directly from them
